If these are the textures from the swamp resource pack, you probably didn't install them correctly. My best guess is you didn't use the installer, but you just dragged the textures into your materials folder or got them from a different custom map. Theses are not base game tf2 textures.

edit: if you want those specific textures they can be found here

Most the swamp files are in the game already so that's probably not it.

Are you using the correct version of Hammer? There's a lot of outdated information these days. I'm not sure what the best guide is currently or I'd link it, maybe someone else knows. You need to be running the Hammer found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Team Fortress 2\bin

It's not just the swamp textures, i have the same issue with other TF2 related texture files, and i'm using the TF2 bin folder Hammer Editor.

That's all correct, so it's something else I'm not thinking of. If you get tired of waiting you can ask the Steam chat, maybe someone there knows.

Are they like this as soon as you start Hammer? Sometimes Hammer will start getting big holes in its texture browser after you've been running it a long time, and then it usually crashes not long after that.

I have those black textures all the time.

If it hasn't been brought up before: do a cache check for both the game and sdk, usually it's the game, but some problems occur directly out of the sdk folder. The first thing that probably the fix is to run tf2, exit and check the cache, if this does not fix it initially, try source sdk, and if that hasn't worked, then relogg into steam and run tf2 again. If all else fails, do the cache check and restart your computer.

Already tried all of that sort of stuff and didn't work

Next best solution in this case, is to reinstall tf2

Validating the game cache is essentially the same thing as reinstalling TF2.

The Source SDK has nothing to do with TF2's Hammer at all.

Seitan, in the Messages window that appears at the bottom of the screen in Hammer, do you get any red error messages?

Have you installed any custom assets in tf/custom or tf/materials?

Overlays folder? Are you talking about the overlays folder inside the VPKs that come with the game? Or have you extracted all the TF2 materials at some point?

You shouldn't have such a folder on your disk. All VMTs and VTF files are kept in the tf_whatever_whatever.vpk files in tf/. If you have materials and models outside of your VPKs, in the tf/materials, or tf/models and so on folders, or in tf/custom/whatever/whatever, they will override the materials in the VPKs in-game and also in Hammer.

I suggest you delete everything inside tf/materials and tf/models. Then validate the game's cache in Steam to restore the small amount of files that normally live in there. Same goes for tf/sound. Also tf/scripts and tf/resource just to be sure, if your connection isn't piss poor.

Dunno why you have those files. Any thoughts? Have you ever installed some kind of graphics mod?
