Invasion - New Gamemode by Joe 'Fr0z3nR" R

This is new type of gamemode I've been thinking about. In 5 Simple words the objective "Protect Reactor Core Against BeepBots." In more than 5 words, you're goal as a team is to protect your reactor core against waves of beepbots, while escorting yours to the enemy reactor core.

Things that I need to add to the gamemode (not the map):
+ Custom Voice lines to say how much integrity the reactor has.
+ Or, if not above, use various announcer voicelines, to convey similar things.
+ Remove Beepbots voice lines.
+ Remove RD hud since it is irrelevant, add something else.
+ Try to remove flailing
+ Remove set up time?

Things I'd like to experiment with:
+ Progressively increasing population of waves as time goes on (or as points increase, if we get that command)
+ Tiered Waves: A spawn of 6 bots, 3 'A' bots, 2 'B' bots and 1 'C' bot. You have to kill the A bot group, before the B bot group becomes enabled, and so on.
+ A flag mechanic that provides a secondary objective.
+ Parenting Small trigger_hurts to the beepbots to prevent stacking on them.

Being a new gamemode, feedback is very welcome, and you are encouraged to play this whenever bored.

Thanks!

I liked the Gamemode but Along with the better hud more indication that robots have damaged you're core thing is needed, Flashing lights, explosions, along with the Announcer lines you talked about in testing. Look forward to playing it again.

P.S. I feel the map needs to be widened a bit at mid, But that's not about the gamemode.

If there is some way to have each base's health shown on the HUD, then do it. You wouldn't need any custom voice lines or sounds, maybe a warning like "protect our facility!" or something.

How you would do this, I have no idea. The robot destruction HUD could work if only you could subtract cores from an overall total and the first team to reach 0 points would lose.

Overall this map was very fun and adds a new challenge to tf2. It felt like I was escorting a payload cart and capping badland's last point at the same time. Very interesting.

At the current, present moment, I'm not sure how to do the hud. I know that it can be removed, and I know that you can spawn bots (egan's done it, so I assume I can too). I'll look into it when I'm free and get some time... I could do screen overlays, like we're doing on Snowplow, but I can't have more than 1 up at a time, so doing 2 (1 for each team) seems impossible. Might be able to do something with the CTF HUD, however.

For Voice lines, they're important. You don't want to have to always be checking your hud, you kind of need a queue to do that. I checked through the Announcer lines, and MvM has a bunch that I can use... I think. That'll be tricky getting them in, but shouldn't be impossible.

I'll work on it when I get time this week. Glad you liked it. I kind of got the idea from PL and the old escort missions that everyone hated back in those games that not many people play now a days.

I found the health of the bots made the game mode super boring to play, spent a lot of time looking at the ground spamming stickies is dull, but necessary on this map currently. In a game like DOTA, destroying enemy bots is the same as advancing your bots, you are moving forward when you are killing the enemy bots. In this mode however, the bots will happily walk past each other, this makes destroying enemy bots a chore, rather than a way to progress towards winning.

I think the map would benefit from the paths of the robots being further away, as currently all you have to do is control the bridge to control all of the paths.

I can't see quite how you can make this map work with varied amounts of people at the moment. 12 people on the server and it will be much much harder than keeping the robots back than if there were 24 people on the server.

You need to be building map and mode in concert with each other. I made that mistake with early versions of shortcut.

10 months later.

Reduced health on bots from 1000 to 300.
Adjusted geometry around mid
Adjusted geometry within bases
Adjusted bot spawning mechanic:
+ 3 Capture points. Each team starts with 1 point.
+ By owning a point, you unlock bot spawning on one of the owning teams lane.

Hello there! I have happened across this game and went searching for the map download since I apparently have a hard time getting it to work by subscribing to it.

I have that fixed now and now I have found this thread. Seeing it ending off so soon, not much improvement has seemed to be made to it and I would have loved to see more added to this!

I myself are a new coder and possibly a new map maker, I can see things that could be updated here that would be quite fun! Some of what I think would be nice to add is just what most others have said. I love this gamemode and it's not like many others out there. I wish this to continue and not die off like this.

If it is that you no longer want to continue this mode or just don't have the motivation to do it, that is fine I can understand that. I myself may play around with the map to see what I can figure out.

Ending this off I would like to say that you have done an amazing job on this even if it's really outdated. Continue up your great work and I hope to see more of your maps!
