My computer made an automatic backup of the map rd_asteroid and and .vpk that the required .nav is stored in.
The new rd_asteroid is awful, the old was great.
The also gains the benefits of sentries no longer attacking the ubered bots, and bots healing players.

Extract to maps folder and play, not sure if it can be played multiplayer, as I'm unable to host a server, but I don't see any reason as to why it shouldn't work.

Backup is dated 7-9-14 however the map was updated twice that day, the second update being a fix for a glitch involving the respawn time of blue team, I'm not sure if this backup was created before or after that fix.

Not sure why screenshots are not showing up.

Note that you are going to have problems if you download this and set it up. Any server running the newer version won't work for you, as you won't be able to connect without removing this copy from your folders. There's also a chance the next update will overwrite this.

The map is named "rd_asteroid7914.bsp" and the .nav is named "rd_asteroid7914.nav". They wont overlap. I'd go more into details, but I typed up an in-depth response and got auto logged out before hitting preview.

Are they actually different from the get-go or did you rename them? If the former, awesome!

Could you actually backup different versions for us?
It would be nice to be able and look back at different states of this. I only store changes of stuff that is relevant to RE, plugin development and finding hints to new content.

Turns out I'm not the only person who made a backup of the map, someone else did and they named it "rd_asteroid_old".
They have it on a server too.

Sorry but no.
This just happened to be a fluke.

I thought renaming a map that had already been compiled messes with ... something. That's why they say to recompile if you're planning a name change. Yes/no?

It breaks any material that is packed into the bsp. If you load a bsp in VIDE (or whatever tool you enjoy using) you'll see things like the cubemaps with a path of /materials/maps/rd_asteroid/.

I think by renaming the bsp you break TF2's construction of the path, so it tries to find textures in /materials/maps/rd_newfilename/, which doesn't exist in the bsp, which means the texture can't load. In the case of cubemaps that means you'll get the purple checkerboard.

If the map had no custom assets or cubemaps it probably loads without problem. I'm not 100% sure how the lightmaps are stored so that may work regardless of the bsp filename.

As someone who constantly updates the dedicated server, I can say that nothing that is not related to the update gets overwritten, unless you Validate the update which would also ensure there are no missing/corrupt (also mismatching) files. I removed a bunch of maps I would never use and they aren't getting downloaded back when updating the server, so I guess having a different map with the same name is safe.

That was written referring to the next Asteroid update specifically, assuming there was going to be one.
