Hi guys. I'm new to mapping (and I'm not exactly amazing with computer), but it takes the whole TF2 experience to a new level, and it's something that I find fun and interesting.

My two favorite maps are cp_orange_x and cp_orange_cross in low grav, but I also love 'realistic' maps such as pl_Goldrush. However, I can't stand capture the flag maps.

Anyways, I'll be starting with simple orange maps to get a good feel for Hammer, then I'll move on from there.

That's it for now, MAGGOTS!

Welcome!

Yeah, listen to Mangy and put effort into whatever you release to the public. It really pays off. Of course, you're still free to make as many orange maps as you want, it's just that I wouldn't recommend it, since most people (especially those who are into mapping) hate them.

haha. I knew you guys probably didn't like orange maps. It just happens to be my favourite color, and they're simple, yet very intense maps.

Don't worry though. I first wanted to start mapping to create a rather complex payload map, most of which I have already drawn. However, first things first, I must learn the program. Orange maps seem, at least to me, the best way to do so.

I've gone through some of the tutorials, and I've already learnt much for myself. There are still somethings though that don't seem to be working. Ex: when I create a brush to tie to an entity, like for making a cap zone, it remains a solid block (it should be invisible). How can I fix this?

Anyways, I hope I didn't offend anyone. But suggestions and help is much appreciated. Thanks.

welcome! i think we're straying from the "introduction" part, but i think i can answer your question: typically entity brushes are textured with one of the tools brushes, such as trigger - these are partially transparent so that you can see what's inside the brush, and will ensure that the brush won't be rendered in-game.

Yeah, what Jynx said. I usually texture most of my entity brushes with tools/toolsnodraw, and use tools/toolstrigger on those that are trigger entities (they have "trigger" in their names).

Anyways, I hope I didn't offend anyone. But suggestions and help is much appreciated. Thanks.
Oh no, I'm sure no one has managed to be offended. For suggestions and help, just ask in the Mapping Discussion subforum.
