Ok my hammer is now back up and running - I open my map and EVERYTHING is now w func_detail.

Any ideas what happened or do I get the joys of recoding everything all over again?

If you have Vista or 7 you could always restore the file to a previous version. Or autosaves folder ?

Ok I just opened it up again today (error happened yesterday) and everything is back to normal -- I guess normal means - "Why the F is it always me getting all these weird f*cking bugs all the time?"

Pretty sure you have to have specifically set up the folder to do scheduled backups in order for that to work. And only people with big fat external hard drives ever bother with automatic backups.

I don't know, I think I only asked the drive to make backups, but it is so random that sometimes it'll save you, sometimes not :(

A simple habit to get into is every time you open a map in hammer, "save as" and increment the version number. That way if something goes wrong, you'll never lose more than a day of work.

Which can still suck, but 1 day is a lot easier to swallow than months or years.

Well, some of us started mapping before all this fancy cloud stuff existed, and old habits die hard. :v
