competitive mapping request

Hey I'm looking for someone to fix some problems in the current maps we use in competitive 6v6.

Right now a lot of people are unhappy with cp_coldfront and are on the verge of voting it out. I really like the map and want to see it stay for next season, but I cant help but recognize some of its current problems. I hope to address these issues with a mapper so that we can keep it in the rotation for at least another season. The biggest problem with the map revolves around last and how hard it is to push. My idea is to just put in cp_follower last point, which was the one amazing part about that map, and it's one of the few custom maps to come out for 6v6 that doesn't ha ve a painstakingly long stalemate at last. This will be a bit tricky, due to the elevation changes, but definitely doable by recessing the coldfront side entrances into last down, and keeping the same elevation for the middle entrance. Any other compatibility problems can be fixed with some creativity.

The other map I want to change is koth_viaduct. It's over all a good map, but sniper and heavy are a bit overpowered on it, due the sight lines both classes can achieve and how much those vantage points dominate the entire map. I want to change the sniper bridge, so that they can't very easily run away or drop down, should they get spammed at or jumped on. I also want to open up one of the side areas so that heavy cant simply stand on the point and prevent other classes from trying to flank.

The other problem that both maps have is that they are winter textured which creates problems for colorblind players determining the differences between blue models on a grey/white texture. Already this problem has been addressed with koth_viaduct_summer and cp_warmfront. Conveniently this also removed the snow particle, which improved some players FPS problems on the map.

Nobody is going to add you on steam to fix something in a map that we don't know about.

Post your problems in here, and see if you can get some answers/someone willing to work with you.

Vhalin updated his post a bit. It's basically what he told me and showed me in game. Kinda easier to visualize when you're looking at stuff so I see why he didn't post originally.

The follower/warmfront edit is the tricky one mostly due to the high middle exit onto last in Follower. Coldfront doesn't really have a good way to use that. The side Granary-esque doors are the easy part. I'd do this if I had the time, but I'd rather be focusing on Desertion. Then again it could be a good way to kill time when I don't know what to do on Desertion.

The Viaduct edits are so simple I might do them when I get some time tonight, but not now because I've got some stuff to do. One issue with viaduct_summer is that the lighting is all terrible. For one I think HDR is messed up and for another I think whoever did it just deleted some lights altogether. I'm gonna start from scratch on that one. I've got a couple versions I want to make for these guys that we talked about.

The only real pain I see here is decompiling these and taking the broken tool textures and reverting them to what they should be. Not looking forward to that on Viaduct, and definitely not on Coldfront and Follower.

Before mashing together Coldfront and Follower, I'd get the authors' permission to do so (or does Valve control Coldfront now?).

you cant just copy and paste an area into a map. 5CP (and every map type pretty much) doesn't work like that. It is the reason follower sucks imo. each area needs to flow into the next one. i think redoing or tweaking coldfront's last would be much better.

im all for the viaduct edits, who likes heavy and sniper.

The main issue with people claiming that warmfront increases fps because it removes particles is that the particles are easily disable-able by a simple command, turning off weather effects.

I understand the call for maps being accessible by colorblind players (Though I have only heard of one who plays competitively). I don't understand why the gameplay changes are so necessary, but I'm fine with having people want it and having someone else do it. I personally will not do it, but thats because I do not agree with the ideas on viaduct, and the coldfront one is going to be a bitch to do, but I will not boycott the ideas.

As long as you play alpha maps. And don't bitch about wanting dev textured maps.

I actually agree with the sniper issues on Viaduct. I don't like Viaduct because of that bridge. The Heavy thing I'm not so sure, but 6v6 is not my environment.

But really, I wouldn't have even talked to these guys if they also weren't pugging a ton of the maps here and leaving great feedback. They've been a boon to several maps already; look at waxpax's recent posts.

I think that they should just use cp_boldfront.

If you spoke with Icarus (the author of Coldfront) about the issues at last then maybe he'll update the map again. But as an individual your feedback wont have much weight when it comes to editing an already officialised map. You'll want to get a lot more support from others to get any physical response.

cp_warmfront is kind of an ugly decompile-recompile.

Vhalin pointed out some icicles left in Warmfront which was pretty funny.

Just from running around Warmfront for a tiny bit, I feel like they've got more issues than just the last with Coldfront ("they" being the comp scene in general).

Comp players don't care about how pretty our maps are... we just want to have fun :D

I have a decompiled version of warmfront and the creators permission... hit me up!
