And now for something completely different

Well, not really. Its going to be just another 'generic' to those twats who think desert themed maps that are a similar to Valves are lame. But to those who actually like the official maps and want more of the same this should do pretty well at keeping you happy.

I've got it in the rotation of the main coltsplayground server - 81.19.219.104:27015 - so its had loads of exposure already and I think several of the guys from here have seen it already (Vander, Mangy...)

No screenshots at the moment because its all red and blue developer textures still :p

Details
- Payload
- Blue attacking
- Three stages
- 2 cap points, 3 cap points and 2 cap points in stages 1, 2 and 3 respectively (although the version in rotation is 2, 2, 2)
- Will be desert themed with lots of hoodoos (that means lots more displacement work :p

Here’s how development is going to happen: You guys don't access to it until it goes into beta. It will stay strictly coltsplayground until then. You guys will still get screenshot and news updates of course, but you'll have to head over to a coltsplayground server to play it.

But seriously guys, although it is still alpha, we already had epic battles on it. Check it out on coltsplayground!

I liked what I saw so far. Didn't get to have any epic battles with only 5 people in server at the time, but I'm looking forward to playing with a large group.

Just wondering....


Have you been planning this for a while (before Goldrush came out). Or have you magically whipped up a map in about 4 days?

I'm begining to think that 'hoodoo' was a bad idea. I started out and thought it was rubbish, then I kinda got used to it and started to like it and now there seem to be a lot of people asosiating it with magic rather than the rock formation. What can I say, coming up with a good, unique, one-word name is hard.
Wether I change the name or not it will still have lots of hoodoos scattered around and in the skybox.

It was just the name I am questioning

Ace - It probably took me about 6 days total (ignoring the day pl_goldrush actually came out as I was too busy playing that) thats 4.5 days to make the map spaced out over a week and a half before pl_goldrush was released, then 1.5 days to implement the payload system.

this map is great for alpha. I played it a bunch of times and didnt feel capture points were too hard at any point. Although perhaps there was one too easy but i dont remember which it is.

I think this map is better than Goldrush because that has a bunch of areas one team can reach easily but another cant. Its really annoying having to go for a really huge walk to get around to killing snipers.

This is the first PL custom map Ive seen and if you can get it textured (etc) quickly it could be the most played custom PL map ever :p. I have however seen 1 other custom PL map in alpha stage.

I might put a little bit of a description in the 'menu photo' bit like gold rush has a chalkboard style map; I could put in a diagram of a hoodoo.

I've got the layout sorted for the extension to the second stage, I've just got to sort out spawn rooms, doors, fix the very final cp and add health/ammo packs and we can have a new one to test :D
