Steam Client UI Update to Release on Monday
APRIL 20, 2010, 12:14 PM - VALVE - GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENT

After two months in beta and over twenty updates, the Steam Client UI Update is slated to release to all Steam users this coming Monday, April 26th.

We'd like to extend our thanks to all of you who've taken part in improving Steam by participating in the 2010 Steam UI Update beta. You've put the beta through its paces and provided great ideas and feedback.

The beta has been a huge success. The number of you who participated exceeded all our expectations, and so far you've created 25 thousand posts to the beta user forums. As a result of your participation, the Steam team has had the feedback required to make the new Steam client more reliable and useful than ever.

For those of you who've yet to join the beta, it's not too late! By participating now, you'll be updating your system to include our most recent developments. You'll also minimize the amount of content required to download later, once the released version becomes available. And last but not least, you'll be experiencing the future of Steam now, including dozens of new features, bug fixes and general improvements.

Regardless of whether you've chosen to opt into the beta, keep your eye out for the Steam client update on Monday, April 26th, when a brand new Steam is headed your way.

6:11 PM - Shmitz: Monday is the day I stop using steam ¬_¬

But Shmitz, the new version is better!

And hopefully this will also be the release of mac steam, (they said april!) and I will be able to stop running L4D on my mac which crashes every time you load the next map.

I won't be the release of Mac Steam. They only just sent out the Beta Invites to it. Probably another few weeks.

Can't wait, aesthetically, it looks a lot better, and the functionality has greatly improved. A shit storm ensues.

As long as it doesn't still have the bugs I've been experiencing (namely inability to start when it can't connect to the Steam servers and repeated attempts to download the same update) I'm cool. Of course, if it does, they're going to be getting an earful from me.

As long as the overlay is fixed I'll be happy. Nothing more annoying then closing the overlay to find your keyboard unusable because it's still capturing your keys. :(

You people who hate the new UI suck. The new UI is better in every way.

Also, the mac beta has been running for weeks.

They said that the mac steam will be the new steam, and now that they've finalised the beta and are realeasing it, I see no reason not to hold back on the mac version

Remember, there's a small view for the new layout too

People who react with shock and horror to some small problems with the new UI amuse me. It's not the end of the world - It's still Steam, it looks a little different, and it may lack a couple of things you don't really need.

Cry some more.

Yeah I can't wait for the Mac beta. My college requires me to have a mac and I don't feel like lugging around a PC too or using bootcamp/crosswhateverthehellitis.

What kind of sick, sick college do you go to!?

New, better library layout, a downloads tab, a better store, WebKit browser in game, faster community, fully customizable, and you can make it look like the old steam.

I love Valve. Especially because they're not forcing this on us like other companies (YouTube, ahem)-- you can still have the old layout. :)

You cant choose the old layout after the official release, this was just while the ui was beta.

The new ui is better anyway, and it would be silly to have two client versions that need to be updated and taken care of.
