Okay I am having a lot of trouble with pakrat because it is late I am tired and I am silly. When adding my custom materials, is the path materials/myname okay?
Or does it need to be materials/maps/mapname/myname

myname being something like Signs or Metals

The former is fine. It loads the materials as if loading the GCF, only it will happen when the map is run.

Well patrak tells me that it has them all packed.. but nobody I have given the map to can see my materials (they are actually overlays but doesn't make a difference right? RIGHT?)

Just so you don't presume me stupid, I opened my compiled bsp in pakrat, added the vtf and vmf files myself, and then did the save bsp. It then gave ticks next to all my custom files.

it's the whole purple chequered thing they get

And you're sure they're not actually complaining about missing cubemaps?

no.. I did the cubemaps fine.
They just see my custom overlays as missing textures, i.e. the purple annoyance

Well .. it sees them in there :(

would making the directory a capital letter make it bad? D:

edit: apparently i forgot to validify them, and so it seems they are there but all corrupt. So yeah, skipping a4 and going to a5 instead with renamed textures and directories.
