ABS Prop Library crashes hammer

When I try to load the prop library with another map, it crashes hammer completely. Am I supposed to use the prop library differently or is there something wrong with hammer itself?

I'm an amateur mapper so I really wouldn't know.

It's odd, it doesn't give me any error or anything, it just simply closes without notice when I load the library and another map at the same time.

Like I said, try redownloading it (if you haven't already). If that doesn't work... I don't know. It's never given me that problem. Maybe as a last resort you could try reinstalling the SDK, but I don't know if you'd want to do that-- and you'd have to back up your maps and models and whatnot before you did it.

Redownloading probably won't help anything, the installer has a self-hash-check and wouldn't run if it got corrupted. Though you can try it anyway if you want.
However, I don't really know what might be causing the problem. There is nothing special about it, just a bunch of prop entities.

Could it be a problem with his GCF? The models themselves might be corrupted and when Hammer tries to load them, it crashes.

OT: That's actually pretty neat that it has a self-hash-check in the installer.

That wouldn't happen. I've had my gcf files corrupt before, you just get "ERROR" models like you would if you typed the name in wrong.

:/

I have no clue then. Could there just be a problem with his Hammer installation then? We're kind of running out of possibilities here.

It runs fine by itself, but when I run it with another map already running, it just simply shuts down. It seems that there is no conceivable reason why it would crash like this. I'll do some more testing with it and see what I can find.

The only reason I'd see that happening is your ram overloading, but like Dr. Pepper said it shouldn't do that with a full 2GB. What OS do you have? If it's Vista that may be why, since it takes up nearly 2GB of ram itself.

To test if it's a ram issue you could try opening the prop library alone, and then slowly scrolling through the texture browser to load every VTF into memory, which would put the usage far over what another map would add.
