Gaming Night V Recap:
Honestly I could not tell you I was actually not there for 99.9% of it. I just got a new desk, a new epicly large desk and was busy working on assembling it in my room (like seriously epic, I started cleaning last night at 7:00 pm, worked this morning until 11:00 am, finished cleaning by 1:00 pm, started moving pieces into my room, finished assembling / moving my computer back in at 6:30 pm). However when I did go to join it seems that the server ones again needed a kick in the arse and nobody gave it one. Mayhaps I could be made an admin so I can kick it in the arse every once in a while?

Gaming Night VI
When:
  • March 8th
  • 1:00 PM PST, 4:00 PM EST, 9:00 PM GMT
Where:
Maps:
  1. If you are submitting a map, please do one of the following:
    1. Include a link to a publicly released version
    2. If there is no publicly released version send either me or DrPepper a forum PM (or contact me on steam) containing a link to a version that we can post onto the server.
  2. *note* we will most likely NOT have a password on the server so any maps submitted can still be download by the general public and there is a chance they might like it enough to try and post it to the internet without first asking permission. Keep this in mind.
Map submissions close Friday, March 7th at 5:00 pm.

XD u wish :p immortal-d put me as the first person to be an admin on the server, should we ever need one. that is, unless immortal-d broke his promise :crying:

also, i nominate:

cp_castle3: http://tf2maps.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=64

ctf_badlands_classic_b3e: http://tf2maps.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=118

and cp_2skyscraper_b3: http://tf2maps.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=167

also, take out valve maps from the rotation, they all suck IMO :D

Negatory for several reasons.

1. I like them
2. Other people like them
3. Other people KNOW them
4. They bring other people onto the server
5. I like them
6. I dont like castle, but I do not deny your right to submit it :)
7. Yes, I said I like them twice.

Also, while I have met many people that dont like Well and hydro, there have only been a couple that have said they dont like 2fort and so far. I cant think of anyone else who has said they did not like granary. I was actually thinking it would be fun to toss in dustbowl.

its ok if u like them, but i was just saying i dont, hence IMO which means "in my opinion". ok, i take back that all of them suck, 2fort is the only one i like enough to go out of my way to play it. i dont mind playing the others, i just don t like them much, and the fact that playing Valves maps doesnt help custom mappers at all :D

But it does help them (and if you can't tell I love lists)
  • The valve maps are excellent examples of well designed maps and many custom mappers would do well to learn from them.
  • It brings people onto custom maps servers, some will stick around for the custom maps rotations.

Is this gaming night going to be sister-hosted by Youme's server? I'll get a horrible ping in the US server

I dont think so. From what i hear a map killed the TF2maps.net server last time and no one was around to kick it in the arse and I think the last one was more of an experiment to see if we could do two servers at once. I think that for now since we only have 12 confirmed people attending, 2 servers at the same time is not going to happen.

One idea I had was to have game day start on Youme's server from 4:00 pm GMT - 9:00 pm GMT, then have the game day move over to the US server from 9:00 GMT (which is 4:00 pm EST, 1:00 PM PST) onward. That way the Europeans get to play for a bit on a local server at reasonable times, then for later times we move to the US server.

Probably, I dont really have control over what actually goes onto the server, but I can update the first post with a link to your new version with a note saying it was updated.

*bump* Reminder that Map submissions end Friday 5:00 pm EST (10:00 pm GMT, 2:00 pm PST)

/note a nifty program for VBulletin would be a [time] tag. You put [time]5:00 pm[/time] and it auto converts to the local bulletin time.

Its 3:00 pm EST right now, I am at work but will be leaving soon. There is a "major" snow storm happening so the idiot drivers in Cincinnati are probably going to be goign 10-15 mph the entire way home.

If traffic were completely clear I could get from where I work to home in about 35 minutes, on a normal day it takes me 45-50 minutes to get home. Last year we had 6 inches of snow and it took me over 4 hours to get home. Earlier this year we had 4 inches of snow and it took me 2 1/2 hours.

So, what i am trying ot say is even if I leave here at 3:30 pm, I will probably not be arriving home at a reasonable hour and will not be updating the main post with new maps. So I am still considering map submissions closed at 5:00 pm EST, but I will not be here to announce the closing and I will not be updating the main post after 3:30 pm to reflect new maps.

So DrPepper or ImmortalD, whoever updates the server rotation, please take into account maps submitted before you do the uploading that are posted in this thread but not updated in the main post. ( I think I am caught up to the time of this post)

Uploading something to tf2maps.net now... =\

EDIT: Ok maybe not. The forum uploader doesn't like me anymore and won't let me upload. In the meantime, I have it hosted on my own space, but if too many people download it, it could be bad...

At any rate, I nominate cp_science2_b2 for gameday tomorrow, if you don't mind a nomination that's a half hour late. =(

I really am looking for feedback on how the layout change affects gameplay. I've seen evidence that it really helps promote conflict between points 3 and 4, but I worry that the bases may be too easy to assault now once you've taken point 4.
