Vigil RC10

Single stage 4 point payload, originally made in the 2016 Winter 72 Hour Jam

Red have built their own observatory. Unfortunately for them, Blu has learnt about its existence, and are trying to do what they do best - blow it up.

Vigil is a single stage 4 point payload, set in a mountainous area leading up to an observatory. It's designed with a shorter payload track to allow more time for fighting rather than just pushing the cart.

Originally named Dawn's Vigil

Splendid map for its intended setting (Competitive), however the map does not play nearly as well in standard 12v12. This isn't NECESSARILY a bad thing, however I am of the opinion that most maps should try to be versatile in their application, which Vigil is lacking in my opinion. I mainly say this because of all the games I have played in casual Vigil, RED tends to lose 80-20 unless teams are hugely stacked in their favour. Now, this definitely seems by design, as having 20-minute half-games on Vigil per comp match would make the map miserably boring (what nobody wants in comp), however again it does take away from the versatility of the map.

If TF2 were exclusively the comp portion, I would give this a 10/10. However, due to comp being a small fraction of the overall playerbase, I can't really say I'd give Vigil something more than a 7/10. It's a fantastic map for its intended audience, but its wide reach outside of that audience drags the map down for me.
Fun for comp. I cannot speak to how it would play in casual play.
Fluid Highlander gameplay, a rare feat nowadays
I remember playing this map at multiple occasions, both on casual and competitive settings, and honestly, the layout is pretty clever.

The defense that can be attacked through a few branching paths, yet can remain solid thanks to the different heights that the map uses throughout, and attacking players can really pick their fights when it really comes down to it.

The multiples slants and ramps also allows for a fair bit of movement teching (especially with things like pogo jumping or trimping), while classes with more limited mobility like Heavy or Sniper can benefit from the different ledges that are scattered throughout the layout !

At the end of the day, the map feels pretty accessible while allowing different mains to showcase their knowledge of the map and their class in pretty creative ways, all while respecting the art direction of the old-school OG TF2 from 2007, which is pretty cool if you're askin' me !
Balanced map, a HL favorite!
Amazing map for both community servers and Competitive TF2! A much faster-paced payload map with very few long-lasting stalemates. The map flows really well, and the added ducks make for a fun Easter egg hunt!
Really like the clouds being around the mountain! Will credit you and add this to my server!
Great stuff - oarsome map
Played this in a server, it was so much fun!! We were down to the last 10 seconds on Offense and the defenders were putting up a great resistance. We managed to break in with two back-to-back Ubers and win the game! Visually, gameplay-wise and overall I feel like this ought to be made official.
this is the best map for comp highlander, i love it more than upward and badwater
