    What will NOT be accepted:
    Etc.

(The second one could, for example, be turned into a detailed guard shack, which would be acceptable).

Buildings like this will be warned, and if no action is taken removed.

    Second off:
There will be a town square. The contents of it will be undecided, but it will have a spot for spawn, and a gathering place such as a fountain/etc. There will be a message board somewhere.

Third: Mobs will not be allowed within the walls of the town. There may be some sort of physical wall, but monsters will be prohibited from spawning inside the town.

Fourth: You will NOT be able to dig or build freely in the town. If you wish to build a building, you can claim a plot and build something in the build-box that fits in those dimensions. If it's deemed good enough, it'll be moved into town.

Fifth: Outside of town is the wilderness. You'll be able to build whatever you want here (out of visible range of the town). Note that block pillars aren't acceptable out here, and will be removed and I'll probably yell at you or something. (This is a basic no pillars/swasticas/phallic objects/etc thing)

Sixth: If someone wishes to set up a second town (Eg; like Riverside is now, etc) then you can talk to me and we can set up a second town with established transport between them.

On another note: Which walkway style is best?
(Three wide, two wide, or one wide), and which 'outlet' design is the best? (Fence posts sticking out or not).

Also person who designs the town's light fixtures wins a cookie. I want the light fixtures consistent throughout the town's paths.

This is just a general idea for 1.8, opinions are welcome.

I know I'm the one who suggested this but I think building on site would be better. moving the unworthy buildings outside of town sounds like less work to me. it's just more fun and easier to manage that way.
(and ensures that the main town doesn't become a ghost town)

also what about the maximum exploration radius we talked about?
something like 2000 blocks sounds good to me. maybe we could start with 1000 and extend it as we see fit (if that's even possible)

I say three wide for major streets, 2 wide for other streets, maybe 1 wide for walkways to houses. I like the sticking out version.

I prefer the 3-wide streets and jutting-out exits.
For light fixtures, I'm thinking a glowstone block sitting atop 2 stacked fenceposts (the bottom one could be the street fence). Would probably look bad with the standard texture pack, but nice with YM's ChaoCraft pack. I don't have a pic, because I have never been to the Nether.

    But Endermen!

In all seriousness: I like the two-wide streets with no fences sticking out.

Also the seed must be 'supersandvich'.

I can still make a tower, though, I hope? I like to make big castles and stuff, and a tower might become appropriate for such a building. It'll look nice and all.

As for streets, anything wider than one block is fine. I prefer two blocks, if I must choose.

I like two as a standard. That leaves room for 3/4 wide main streets, that are dramatic but not ridiculous.

This sounds really cool and I _might_ actually join the server this time when 1.8 comes out - I never really played multiplayer with more than 2 people before

At what point does something like that safe house tower become unacceptable.

I made it as an outpost when travelling through the forest as mobs tend to spawn even during the day in the shade of the leaves. The box in the tower is full of food. I considered surrounding it in glass so the structure was more complete but then it'd be impossible to clear the base of the tower of creepers... the open top serves a fully functional purpose.

I might have turned it into a gate house... but then it'd defeat the point of it being a low budget safe house; i needed the resources to build a huge bridge 50-100 units further down the road.

I guess the question i'm asking is what are the rules regarding temporary structures. We'd obviously have detailed projects at the end of a task or w/e, but like builders have temporary shacks on site...

EDIT: About the towns lights. I know it's nothing fancy, but i thought torches ontop of a segment of log looked really neat.

aren't lanterns always just some fence blocks on top of each other with 1 glowstone hanging down

Oh, also another thing: if one has a house in the town, would digging down in the basement be allowed, or does that fall under the 'no digging freely' thing?

And we need a way to distinguish the borders of the town; I vote a three-tall wooden pillar with torches on the sides of the top block.

I always thought that style of lantern looked pretty bitchin' to be honest.

Also, i presume we'll be free to colonise bits of land outside the town. Like my island in this one or my hill in the other?

Fair enough, though people have to understand if they choose to build here and it's not acceptable it'll be notified and torn down. (Though I have no problems with leaving critique and helping improve). On that note, projects that are left to hang forever (Without real excuse, eg; Busy with work, etc) will probably have to be removed/transferred to storage. (I'm talking like 1wk+ with no progress). Again, something to play by ear.

I think that's a good way, maybe a 1,000 block radius circle and then if we totally explore that and people still need more we can go up to 1500, 2000, etc.

If it doesn't fit the main town, you can always establish your own town with similarly-themed buildings and it can be connected to the main town's rail transport.

Apologies, I intended for it to be an example of what not to build within city limits. As far as a safehouse along the path, I'd be okay with adding a door and some form of roof.

Good question. I suppose as long as the temporary shack gets taken down eventually/when no longer in use they're fine.

You can. And the railstation could go under the town. I just don't want any random straight lines to nowhere under the town (other than the rail station), but a basement that takes up underneath your house (+ a bit) is fine.

What do you guys feel about collapsing the mine's under the city so there's no reason to explore underneath, other than building a basement? This would mean that you'd have to actually walk to the wilderness and have a hut next to a cave out there. This would make the main town sort of 'showoff/longtime storage' (Assuming chests are lockable and buildings were protected).

We could do a variety of things, I suppose it's something to figure out before we start building. There will be a message when you enter/exit the region though, "Now entering <MainTown>."

Not sure which island you're talking about, but if you're more or less out of site from the main town you're free to take over an entire island, make pathways that connect to other colonised bits, etc. This is basically a "no ugly buildings right outside of the town's borders."

As far as lamps, here's the main things I've seen:

to me, caves = exploration time!
no caves = strip mining time!
so it doesn't really do anything for me :\

I think we should be able to dig as we please as long as you're at least 20 unit under ground level. that way everyone has plenty of space to build a basement or minecart station.

You'd just have to make your cave out in the 'wilderness', you could set up a mini-house outside of it and claim it as yours, Wurm style.

It'd be annoying to try and count down 20 units, + avoid running into other's caves imo. I don't think the town square is going to be massive so there won't be a lot of cave systems.

Will the town have a park? If so, Can I build my house in the trees as long as it's not garish? and i'm in favour of 2 block wide pathways with no fence poking out

Matt, did you answer my question with something meant for somebody else? Or maybe I just need to clarify; I'm talking about tall structures in the wilderness.

You're welcome to do that. Though I hope you have lots of cobblestone for a 256 tall world. :D

I feel like a couple rules have been established based on things I and Rexy have done on the server...

I dislike the 1000 block rule. Just let us go out to whereever the fuck we want :/
