HAARP is an Attack and Defend CTF map for the contest. H.A.A.R.P. (the High Frequency Active Auroral Red Project) is stationed inside a huge Red base built in the side of a cliff. In the snowy Alaskan wilderness, they've built antenna arrays and a gigantic satellite dish. But what you don't know is it's really a DOOMSDAY DEVICE that could potentially END THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT. Blue must infiltrate the base and deliver the shutdown override codes before DEATH AND DESTRUCTION RAINS DOWN ON THE WORLD (or something).

"Wait, what the hell does HAARP mean?"

So what are the rules?
-Blu delivers intelligence to capture points. Red defends.
-The map is divided into 3 sections, like dustbowl.
-The intel spawns outside of Blu's respawn. Once Blu captures the first CP in a section, the next intel will still spawn outside of Blu's respawn.
-Red can block captures by standing on the CP.

Oh my, Muse! Amazing band, favorite band. <3.

I saw HAARP and I got extremely excited and nearly told someone about this map...And then realized I'm the only one who would be excited about this =P

Are you actually making the HAARP facility, or is the map just called HAARP?

I just realized that there's a download of the map. I'll have to test it out tomorrow or something.

Yeah, I meant the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program facility. I have no idea what it looks like, but apparently you're able to tour the entire facility.

I'll check out the map tomorrow and give actual feedback instead of just nerding out over Muse.

Heh, I've seen Muse live twice, at Wembly Arena and Stadium.

My maps are named after Beatles songs :O

Let me guess the theme: Stupid amounts of spytech (e.g. oversized satellite dishes, mysterious spacecraft, ballerinas dangling under balloons etc.).

I'm going to try and get section 2 ready for a gameday this weekend.

For now, I'll post this logo, the product of me being very bored:

OH OH I KNOW WHAT IT IS

...I lied.

Is it a big base in the side of a mountain where planes are being designed?

You said you needed some feedback on the map, and since nobody posted something, I'll try to give you some feedback (I only played 2 rounds though). Emh, well, I only played stage 1 and it seemed that cp 1 wasn't that hard, but cp 2 was really campy, with all those sentries etc. I don't have a lot of suggestions to make it a bit easier for blu, but you could make that 1 way door for blu on a higher level than the ground? (if it isn't already? :p)

But, the map was fun to play, and that's the most important, I think. :)

Thanks Hanz.

The map will be played in the contest map testing later today as well, so I'll get some more testing time.

My initial impression was that the map was fun and worked well. But some parts (especially cp 2) were, as Smashman put it, clusterfuckish.:)

Let me know what you guys think, I'm open to suggestions.

one thing I found exceptionally annoying was the nobuild covering one of the points, the ctf attack and defend has almost reached the point where there should always be a dispenser on the point to encourage someone to stand there and block captures

this being the point im referring to when im describing it, another issue of mine with this point is that it is incredibly difficult to defend with only one sentry, no matter where its placed. However at the same time I think with 2 sentries it could be locked down.

Basically one sentry guards the point, the other is placed on that high ledge in the corridor to the right of the point, with a level 3 teleporter sitting behind the high up sentry to maintain a constant flow of people. I haven't actually seen this happen...it just happened to be something I thought of while playing.

Personally, I think the corridors around the first point and heading towards the second point of the first stage are a bit too narrow. Also, I think that there needs to be another way to get up to the second point of the first stage: the current route is too easy to camp. The second stage is decent, although the second point again is too campy: a fleet of Heavys with Medics will have little problem defending it.

We played this map on 2f2f with 32 people and it was a Clusterf***! First off Demos tried to get into the windows and failed 90% of the time. Also 2nd point is impossible, you need to ether widen the paths or make new ones.
