Well,

As many of you know and have pointed out, TF2 is kinda in the dumps for range of textures, so I have decided to get to work on some.

so far i've completed a few Marble tiles (neutralB&W, red and blue) and am working on the alternates for them (inverts, lights/darks, different marble vein shapes and tile shapes/sizes/formations)

Also I've started on some new nature textures (mostly dirt)

Now here's where the community comes into play.

What type of textures do you feel are most needed?

Keep in mind this is NOT a custom texture offer ;)

I want to know what kind of textures you think would be usable in many different ways and expand the worlds we are creating.

This is for the community :p

We need a few more metal textures dirty and clean.
Any new skyboxes would be amazing :)
Concrete of various shades and ages
Tiled surfaces for floors and ceilings would be even better.

Its so hard to make the right textures for this game. I think all the TF2 textures come from 1 artist (not the model textures). That guy made them all since he knows the best what would fit. You can try to imitate them, but it's hard.

If I can come even near to what the professional valve artists have done in terms of looks and usability ill be happy with my efforts :)

Reiterating Youme's list, the ones I think are most needed are:

-More metal textures (both dirty and clean)
-Wider variety of concrete shades (especially in "neutral" colors)
-Tiled floors and ceilings

I have more realistic looking marble ones made as well

HMm see, you need to put the opacity of the cracks really low, also paint with a big fat brush really quick. Rules are: impressionistic, but the material always stay clear.
The first image than looks like it reflects water :D
The black image should get banned :p

The middle one frightens my inner child. Nice work, though!

I like your textures. I'll experiment with them at some point, they have a cool retro scifi feel to them. What I think TF2 needs are scifi textures. I'm sure a lot of these could be made that are simple but effective; unfortunately I'm not a graphic artist.

Really to make a scifi map at the moment would require either extreme lighting or HL2 textures. Extreme lighting sucks because you can't tell which sides people are visually, and the community as a whole seems resistant to HL2 textures at the moment. Personally I think that entirely HL2 textured TF2 maps should be kosher, and will eventually catch on because of the limited texture set we currently have. After all, TFC used realistic textures.

Can you please make a decent grass texture? The hl2 ones don't look right in tf2 and the ones that come with tf2 look like crap.
