For me, this was quite a close vote between Pitto and Youme. But I vote Pitto, because I think he has gone the extra step with his.

I totally agree.Everyone did a great job on their maps but Pittos map really stood out for me,fantastic work.

The contest rules also clearly stated that nothing needs to be functional, which means I don't quite understand why you included sound (I can't remember more than a handful of entires that had sound), clipping and nodraw faces in the evaluation.

Sound is the most over looked detail. Its completely useless to the function and play of a map, but when its missing the area is exceptionally flat. About the same effect as leaving all the walls bear, no props, etc.

clipping and nodraw were mostly an evaluation of attention to detail. if a player can go to a location by just walking to the location then it should never cause visual errors to occur. I never turned on a noclipping mode to run around an area, just walked through as a player normally would. It wouldnt be fair to fly out of a window, turn around and then complain about the textures out there.

Just as a note: i got the impression you were rushing to meet the deadline with your map. The score is completely meaningless, the focus was the evaluation. We all have places we can improve on and things we did well.

I actually had a custom soundscape in my first entry (you can see the entities in the .vmf), but forgot to pakrat in the .txt file

REALLY tough decision between...

1. ABS - impressive all around, my #1, framerates real bad tho for me.
2. BigRexy - Wow factor 10, might not work in-game

Joint 2nd's

nameless - like the style, great backdrop, hope someone uses that.
VFIG2 - I hope the ctf_deep guy uses this. Love it.
SgtFrag2 - Love the multi levels, would be great in-game

Would be a real shame if these were not used.

Thanks, I really need 2 keep mapping and learning more about the lighting and colour correction.

Something that I used to do (years back in TFC) was to play with off color lights as the primary sources and get the colors to work together when they normally wouldnt. (lights dont have to be white with yellowish tones)

Its fun practice and can led to some great mapping effects/styles that people have never seen.

Coloured lighting usually looks terrible in TF2. It can also make it harder to figure out what team another player is on.

Even though this contest is long over. I downloaded the mega pack and played/ran around each entry. Wow! is all i can say. Some insanely talented mappers here :D
I have learnt a lot from just looking around and intend to explore the vmfs to learn how certain effects were created.
i took a few notes on the ones that caught my eye while bouncing around all of your beautiful intel rooms.

Dullestbulb |Nice small piping section data center
Nubcake |Nice effect with the choppy water and cliffs either side out the window. Good effect on the ground texture too.
VelvetFistIronGlove #1 | Love that plant pot. best detail in the room, simple as it is
Pitto |Really like the lgiht beams around your staircases
Void |The monitors showing the other maps works to great effect
Youme |The orange glow on the sundown setting adds real atmosphere. The Disp roof, locked gate and smoking chimney are great.
Ezekel |Really like the effect you've created wiith the waterfalls+mist. placement of the mist needs tuning slightly
VelvetFistIronGlove #1 | That plant pot rocks. Small detail, but really pleasing to the eye.
Pink Panther |Love the light beams around the surrounding floors and unique window effects. Pyro sounds as you walk around? wth?
NameLess | The spinning vents were nicely placed, looked natural.
ikem |Love the detail in seats for each class and corresponding item.
Big Rexy |Looks stunning, the lightning looks amazing(needs a sound when zapped by it), Really like the moving platform stairs too.
A Boojum Snark |The curved monitors worked really well. The rocket in the background and detailed cabling all fitted perfectly. The B on the floor and staircase were also very striking.
Thanks to GarbageMan for the table template and to all contestants for showing me the extremes that TF2 can be styled. Excellent work by all
