Why do we not have some sort of comprehensive wiki of things to know for new mapmakers?

I've been working on my first map for quite a while now (off and on) and I just keep running into things that I have no idea how to fix and have to search for solutions by sifting through many years of tf2maps threads hoping I find one with an answer, or by randomly searching on youtube or the valve developer wiki and often not finding helpful info. If there is something like this it ought to be on the front page of the website because I have yet to find one.

By valve developer wiki, I assume you mean this. And I'm not sure why you don't think it counts as a good wiki for this sort of thing, because I found it helpful countless times, even nowadays.

Perhaps there's something I'm not understanding.

@HQDefault Say I want to figure out how to make fences have accurate shadows, instead of behaving like solid textures. Or maybe I want to figure out how to make circular holes in brushes. I can't go on the valve developer community and search "fence shadows" or "circular holes" or anything because it's a wiki so there's no page for that specifically. Unless you already know what to search for, it's difficult to find the information.

Okay, I think I see what you're talking about. No, we unfortunately don't have anything like that.

Thankfully, we have the mapping help section of the discord, which makes things a lot easier.

Nodraw.net was doing stuff like this but they stopped doing it unfortunatly. Would be nice to start it up again or have a wiki like you suggested where people add articles themselves (and maybe go through editing/approval). What trbz mentioned is true too, many of the 'Hammer basics' videos don't go over the more minor things like that.
