As most of you are aware, our main server's only use is testing - on days other than Sundays and the occasional impromptu it receives no attention and goes through the usual (bad) map rotation. So, in an effort to populate it, we thought we'd ask what maps you guys think should be on the standard rotation.

The rules are simple:
  • Pick no more than five maps
  • The maps should be in beta or a reasonably detailed alpha
  • Gimmick maps will be assessed on an individual basis
  • Steer away from Arena maps (as if that was going to be a problem)
  • Name your choices (don't post "what x said;" you can quote them, however)

The top seven maps will get put on the standard map rotation, in addition to custom maps already in-game.

Once the map list is established, expect to see more casual play events. These won't be limited to the rotation - many more maps are on the server and ready to be played at any time, as long as a VIP is present to change maps.

Get voting!

I'd like to note that we should alternate between stock and custom maps to attract people on to the server through quickplay.

Also, Seba said that they were going to put all custom maps that VALVe bought. Like Yukon, Harvest, Coldfront, Gullywash... At least that's what I understood.

Just have a lot of good finished maps for a few months so people can get used to them etc, later you can always have 1-2 popular betas in the rotation as well.

I was going to nominate pl corrode, but like Zinkenite, it's a big download for most people, though not as bad as Zinkenite.

My hunch is that Zinkenite is likely popular enough among people that enjoy custom maps that it would be fine to run it despite the size. I don't have anything to base that on though.

Keep in mind that I compiled this list as what I think would show the vast tracts of content that tf2maps.net creates, rather than the absolute best. In other words, what we have to offer aside from the norm. Also know that I haven't played very many of our older maps, so this list could probably be better made.

The server I frequent that runs a load of customs doesn't mind the filesize, it even gets players actively joining midgame despite the Australian internet part.

And the verdict is in - koth_arctic, pl_volcanic, plr_frostfell, cp_stoneyridge, cp_upland, cp_vanguard, and pl_boundary will be added to our regular customs rotation. Congratulations to the authors, enjoy some more publicity for your maps :D
