For some reason, I can't get into TF2, let alone Hammer. I double click Hammer, it shows it loading and then just closes on me so I can't put any screenshots up yet.
However, I do have a video which shows the textures being used.

These textures don't comply with the typical Team Fortress 2 style, it's a mix of Quake 1 and Quake 3. If you don't like it, don't download it. I don't care either way.

this brings back good memorys. Preaty good, some things dont look quite the right size.

Is it ethical to release the textures?

Why not use one of the q1hd free texture packs instead?

As long as no one's going to be using them to make money, and if the people who made quake really give a flying shit about people making tributes to their levels in another game enough to muster a cease and decist then maybe they'd be taken down, though really, what are the chances of that?

The game also went open source if that matters, lets try to stay on topic.
Also, ID Software (Makers of the Quake series) was bought by Bethesda some time ago.

The game engine itself is opensource but the content is not.

The discussion on whether or not this is legal was all decided on the thread I posted above. People and I decided that it would be fine to submit these, so I did.
Talk in the other thread regarding it being legal or not.
I honestly don't care either way, it doesn't stop people from pirating stuff anyways.

It's not illegal unless someone profits from it. Also, TF2maps is not strictly about whether something is ethical to be hosted here. If we were, we wouldn't allow idle/orange maps in the map section. Which we do.

We provide a resource for all sorts of TF2 custom content, i suppose this would count as well.

There's nothing wrong with hosting these textures here as far as i'm aware. But don't expect the active community here to respond entirely positively; because they love TF2 and want to see TF2 textures. Not Quake textures. As, like Mariokart, these sorts of things tend to damage the integrity of TF2.

So ignore the lack of tact from most members, well done for making custom content, we hope to see TF2 oriented content next time, and good luck with it in future.

I disagree but i am unable to prove it because i don't have Quake 3 installed here.

But let me ask this. What if i were to export the textures from tf2 and make a left4dead map with them. Would that be unethical? Yes. Would it be illegal? Yes.

What if i were to export models from modern warfare and put them in counterstrike maps. Illegal and unethical.

Its the same as the whole downloading music and movies thing. Its illegal and unethical.

This is not an attack on anyone and I am not asking for these to be removed. I just want people to realize what they are doing is wrong and hopefully make the right decisions in the future.

The real question would be "would people complain if I used TF2 textures in another source game?"
The answer would be no, for the most part. Mappers seem the be the only people who give a damn and legal authorities, and even some mappers don't care. The chance of a legal authority seeing your map and sending you a C&D letter is slim-to-none. If the general public does care, then they don't have to play that map, problem solved.

tf2 and modern warfare are rather new games, while quake 3 is made open source (i think), thats the difference.

Just because nobody cares and you wont get caught doesn't make it any less illegal and unethical. YOU should care either way. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Its all about personal responsibility.
