Hi guys,
I got excited about the new update allowing people to submit their own content....so I decided to try making a hat. Something simple to start off. Remember Spy vs Spy - that comic strip from Mad Magazine.

It's really a simple model and I've just applied 2 basic colours to it in Max.

I'm going to UV unwrap it and paint a little more detailed texture in Photoshop.

As I understand it, you can just submit an OBJ model and a PSD texture....is that correct?

Cheers.

Here it is with the most basic of UV maps and some very, very basic painting in Photoshop.

I stuck to the 256x256 image size and used the colour palette from the contribution tips and tricks page.

I'm finding it's pretty hard to put much detail in a 256x256 image....but I guess you have to remember it's just a game asset and in game it's only small and should be moving pretty fast most of the time.

I wonder if they'll be very stringent on what content gets added to the game....this is obviously slapped together very quickly so I doubt it makes the cut....yet.....I can keep working on it.

Yeah, I think you're right, so I changed proportions a little.

Man this is so simple and boring.....but I can't really think of anything more to do to it.

It's been a good little learning experience. I might start thinking of better hats to make....or you can do weapons too it seems. Not quite sure how that works but I'm sure we'll find out in the coming days as people submit them.

Stop screen capping, start rendering.

...no!

Items for source don't look at all the same rendered in your 3D software as they do in the source engine! So by all means--KEEP screencapping (in source).

That's what I thought.....rendering isn't really applicable to game art? This is my first ever piece of game art so I don't really know much.

How would I go about putting this in to source? Actually I should probably just google it before asking lol.

Here's some renders and Photoshop mock ups anyhow.

I thought it was pretty obvious that I meant screencapping in 3ds viewports, but since it wasn't let me clarify that here.

Nope, rendering is definitely applicable to game art for showing WIP model images.

Fair enough! It's all good.

I did submit....but I didn't even get like a confirmation email or anything!
Oh well....we shall see what happens.

I just realised...maybe it's 800 *Triangles*.....I had 800 quads I didn't even think of this...because I'm not usually a game modeler.

And Cheers Gamemaster!
