The Texan's Turtle Top Hat

I decided to rework my original hat and resubmit it to Valve. I also gave it a new name. Originally it was "The Command Shell", but that doesn't really catch on. So I've changed its name to:

The Texan's Turtle Top!

I changed the green color to team colors. The Team colors blend in more with the character color palette and I think looks better now.

You can see the original green color in the screens that aren't the first one above.

Funny, well modeled too, doesn't look tf2ish at all though.

The green is very foreign looking, and in my opinion it doesn't really seem like an extension of the character's personality, more their playstyle.

I don't know, I think playstyle pretty much is the class personality. I mean I can see how the Heavy's Ushanka fits his personality, but I'm going to assume that his Football Helmet is all about his playstyle.

As for the green, I tried to copy the usual greens we see in TF2 (Lumberyard Grass Color). I think it just looks a bit foreign looking since we're all used to looking at desert environments. I think maybe making the shell a bit more brownish green would help.

Maybe make it a brown turtle, and instead of it being a shell, make it the whole turtle strapped to the engineer's head? It would feel more makeshift, which fits the idea of a lot of existing hats, and would still get the same idea across (and probably be even funnier).

I was originally going to go with this idea aswell, along with wiring and all sorts of weird gadgets taped to the turtle. It would've been hilarious but I felt that simplicity is key to TF2, and adding too much noise on the hat would make it a bit overly complex. I think that the turtle shell by itself gets the message across without overdoing it.

The heavy being a football player is pretty believable, the engineer wearing a turtle shell on his head? Not so much.

The issue here is that none of those greens are ever stuck onto the player. The green looks very poor on the red players, but would probably mesh pretty neatly with the blue.

Epic win, right here.
Original (not one of the first things you'd think of for the Engie), funny, clever name. And well modelled and textured, too!

Spy needs a hat that's a large red arrow over his head.

A whole turtle strapped to his head may be suit better, as said, especially with jiggle bones arms, legs and head sticking out :p

Oh yeah, that reminds me, one of these days somebody's gotta make a classless headcrab hat.
